Add command button not working

Version 1.4.11 (build 22)
maya 2020.3
Windows 10 18363.1198
For some reason I can no longer create a command button. The popup window doesn't appear and maya locks up unless I press esc. Other popups such as changing namespace still work. Its strange because it worked 2 weeks ago with the same version of maya and animschool picker. Maybe a windows update did something? I tried it on a clean vanilla version of maya and it is the same.
Anyone else able to replicate this?
